I'd just gotten home and was running around in my GIR slippers cooking dinner and I got a knock on my door. It was Jon the Concierge with a package I'd ordered a while back--more cheapo spinning wool for the wheel. I said brightly, "Oh cool, more stuff for the spinning wheel!" and pointed to my stubborn baby in the corner by the bookcase. Jon's face contorted...you could see the word "Freeeeeak" lighting up in his eyes like a big fat neon sign. I sighed and explained that a friend of a friend gave it to me, it was kind of fun in a retro way, etcetra. (I think my using the word "retro" helped--his face cleared almost immediately.) Anyway, as he was leaving I hung my head a bit and said, "I know, I know...I'm the weirdest person on this floor, huh?" "No, not really--there are people on your floor much weirder than that. And I love your slippers!"

That should have cheered me up a little...but the whole thing just left me a little depressed. It's not like I chose to be a weirdo. Oh wait...yes. Yes I did. No whining. I liiiiiike it. So I have to deal with the consequences of weirdness...the "Well, THAT"S different!" look. Maybe it's just the weather that's making me cranky about this sort of thing; usually it doesn't really bother me anymore.

Anyway, off to the working and the walking and the whatnot...

Some idiot thinks you're weird for wanting to make your own yarn, and you think *you* are the freak?

I kind of rationalized it: "Well, it's not like too many people even see a spinning wheel and stuff, so it could be a little weird for people, etcetra..."

Good thing I had the altar covered and the deer skull with the roses is on a shelf away from the door:P

Maybe the look was for trying to figure out what a spinning wheel is?

I dunno...could be. though most people have at least seen Disney's Sleeping beauty? Maybe he thought I was going to put the whole building asleep for a hundred years:)

Sure, everybody knows what spinning wheels look like, but how many of them really know what they are for? What they do and how they work?

Hmmmm...good point. He asked me if I could really spin thread with it, after 5 minutes of the "That's different" look:)

Hey, did I lose me a sheepy somewhere?
*runs around with shepherd's crook*

Hey, I could dye you purty colors and make you a sweater from your own wool!

Maybe he was afraid you were going to prick your finger on the wheel and fall asleep for 100 years.

But on the bright and possibly scary side, he is convinced that there are others on your floor "much weirder" then you. So now the important questions are who are they, and what makes them so weird ;)
