..I had my checkup yesterday, and at first everything seemed pretty normal. But after a while they thought they found something a little off--they think I might have a fibroid on my uterus. (I had never heard the term before yesterday.) I didn't start to get a little scared until they started using the term, "Growth" and my inner voice went, "AACK!" I've had and have no other symptoms, none at all...

So this afternoon I'm getting an ultrasound to check things out--make sure a fibroid's what it is, make sure everything's benign, see if I need surgery or treatment or whatever. Best case scenario,it's what the clinic thinks it is, and it can hang tough until it goes away on it's own. My fingers are very very crossed. I'm also damn glad I've got my new medical insurance.

Soooo...I'm trying hard not to be to nervous. But any kind thoughts would be welcome.

I got a bunch of those. Makes me cramp and bleed hard, other than that, o-ok. Sometimes they like taking them out...but try not to worry. They are really common.

Okay. It helps to know that this isn't some rare horrible thing.

Ugh. Sorry to hear that the doctor's appointment turned scary. But at the same time, they don't really know anything other then something is unusual and they want to check it out. So no need to borrow trouble and worry about it yet.

*thinks happy thoughts at your uterus*

I'm sorry you got scary news. If it's any consolation, fibroids are a pretty common ailment that often cause problematic periods but little more than that. I do hope yours is nothing to worry about!

Thank so much...I had *no* idea what the damn things were, and my clinic was without handouts...so my info was pretty sparse before I got to you guys:(

Fibroids are pretty common and often nothing to worry about, but doctors do need to know if you have them. I have fibroids and mine are of the "ignore them" variety. I get ultrasounds periodically so that the dr. can check on them so see if they've grown and if there's anything to worry about. They do cause some pain, but nothing out of the ordinary.

Just wanted to let you know that most of the time fibroids are nothing to worry about. They can be a pain, but 9 times out of 10, are nothing more than that. I hope yours are of that variety. My thoughts will be with you, and you will let us know, won't you??

Condi Rice just had surgery for these.

FWIW, I had labroscopic "that area" surgery last May and while it hurt for a little while, it was just a little while. I was back to work in like 2 days.

Hang in there!
I had the same thing a couple of years ago, they ended up just snipping it out at the doc's, it was over in 20 seconds and no pain.

Giselle and I will be coming to knitting late today (around 6).

When I had them years ago, they told me that fibroids are almost never malignant. Just a bother.

I've got some fibroids. Mine are the ignorable kind which is the most common. Chances are good that yours will be that way too. It's still worrisome until you know for sure, though. I understand that.

Phew!!!

At first I was just so panicked, the nurses were throwing around the "growth" word...not a happy thing to hear when it's your organs involved:)

Kind thoughts going your way.

My wife and I had some scary weeks regarding a "something" they saw on her mamograms and sonogram, not fun. Hopefully it turns out to be nothing major (or minor) for that matter.
