Arts and Crafts can save the world...
Sep. 6th, 2006 09:11 amYesterday I hit a thrift store with the Queen of Stuff with a sinister goal. Baby dolls. Baby dolls to alter horribly in the name of friendship. Baby dolls in the name of unusual art-therapy...Baby dolls because I wanted to paint funky eyeliner on something. And I found that if I distract the hell out of myself with projects I don't mope. I don't like to mope--thus the incessant projecting lately. Glitter cures so much, really...
So we found two suitable dolls. (as well as a new winter coat and a new styrofoam head and a pair of socks and all the whatnot you end up with when you hit a thrift store.) Happily, there was an ACE hardware store right next door where I could buy electrical tape and spray paint. I hosed them down with white paint and dicovered that spray paint takes a while to cure on the vinyl bits. Meh. They were still dry enough to show to the lovely ladies and gentlemen of Knitting Night, who know me well enough to give me just the occasional head-shake. Ben the Coffee-dude behind the counter thought they were cool, too. (There are way too many Bens in my posts. I can't help it--"Ben" and "Michelle" were popular names for kids when I was a kid.)
I tried some acrylic paint over the stuff that was curing slowly, and that seemed to seal things nicely. I just finished the eyeliner and tatoos this morning, and when I get back from the Jade Mines I'll glue on the funky mohawk on one and glitter the heck out of the ponytail of the other. I have to find time to download pictures, don't I? *hangs head*
I'll get there, I promise, but it'll be the best when I have them finished. They're presents for other people, so I'd better get some pictures before I send them to their new homes...
This is the kind of distraction I acutally like:) It'll keep me from being too bored today at the Mines while walking and bossing:)

Date: 2006-09-06 03:34 pm (UTC)Ben was a popular name in England in the 1700s, too. (Ben Franklin comes to mind). Maybe all the old Bens are reincarnating after a very long year nap...
