Some old coworkers of mine at AZ gallery are having a mail-in art exhibition. My favorite thing in the whole wide world!!!!
...So of course I'm making a *big* spooky postcard with a blurry copy I made of Cora's skeleton when I stuck her on the copier and it "Photo". It''s quietly disturbing so far. I'm going to paint and varnish it, glue strange things to it, and send it off. (With a picture if I can organize well.) I even have a title already--the exhibition's called, "Vacation of the mind"--like the postcards you send or get from travelling friends. Mine will be called, "Having a wonderful time, wish you were fear."
(Btw, anybody can send stuff, from anywhere. *Plug alert!* the address is AZ gallery, 308 Prince st. St Paul, MN 55101, and the art can be any size or medium but postage must be on the piece. You don't get your piece back but you do recieve documentation. the deadline's July 28, ad it opens the 3rd of August and stays up until the 26th. *Plug alert ended!!!* )
I'm posting something a little longer now since I'm waiting for a few friends of mine who want to come visit the museum before it closes tonight at nine. I have a little time.
I treasure this. So a little background stuff.
1: The aforementioned training has me feeling leery, pestered, flustered and slightly paranoid. (A trainee who cops attitude and hangs out with the HR director will have that effect on you.) So I'm quietly looking for other work.
2: The new piece was a hit at Critique night. (though there were only 5 of us, so we drank soda and beer and hung out a bit--verrry formal, us.;) So I'm making a similar one this weekend to trade with someone for their music. (A smaller one than the original, which isn't very big anyway...It's a faux-finished piece of wood with some detailing, and in the middle a large contemplative eye with a marbled lid gazing out past broken seashells and river quarts pebbles.)
Yes, yes, I'm such an art-geek, and I need to borrow that goddamn camera again.

3: I get paid tomorrow. Allelujiah!!
...And it will be so nice to go home. I want to be all alone for a while without people criticising me when they don't really understand what i'm doing. (It's been THAT kind of work week. I want monkeys. Flying. Mean. Fanged. Bering anal-probes. Attitudinal. I want them. Where are my monkeys?)
I want to go home and treasure my own quiet homey (semi) competence. Not make the bed. Eat dinner out of the pan. Get crumbs all over. Paint something because I feel like it. Take a long hot bath, hog the bathroom, sleep early sprawled under the a/c with a half-read book falling out of my hand. The utter licentiousness of being unwatched.
Ms Eff. What do you do when nobody's lookin?
