Yay! Knitting in public!!!
Aug. 12th, 2007 02:32 pmThe Jade Mines is having a Family Day with a Scandinavian theme today, so there's lots of unearthly voices singing in Danish and folk dances and wood carving and whatnot. There's also a knitting project by this very nice young Danish lady--a huuuuuuge connected series of scarf-like strips in various shades of red that look like some kind of dredged-up seacreature. I went up there on my break and had a great time adding stitches to the project with some other people--a couple where one guy was teaching another, very patiently, a teenage girl who needed help rescuing her stitches, and me in my uniform feeling like I was getting away with something...it's a really interesting thing; getting to see knitting samples from this wide range of people--some knitting tightly, some loosely, some clumsily, some with dropped stitches, some fluidly and graceful. I added two rows of yarn overs for lace after I did a couple of rows to catch up on some of the stitches the previous knitter had dropped.
I'm so happeeeee....it's a really cool idea for a project, I think:)
