Mmmm, State Fair...
Aug. 29th, 2007 08:12 amHoly crap, do I love the State Fair...
The Queen of Stuff and I went in the morning yesterday, before it got too crowded. I immediately sought out a corn-dog--it's not State Fair without a corn dog; even if it's only 10 on the morning. We had a glorious time checking off fun things We Like to Do:
Corndog: check.
Fine Art Building: check.
State Fair Knitties and stuff: check check check! And sooo pretty!
Kiwani's milkshake presented by kid on First Job Ever: Check.
Various fried and grilled things on sticks: Mmmm,Check.
Napkins: Check. *wipe wipe wipe*
Butterfly tent: Check.
Checking for butterflies on the way out: Check--Oh wait, there's one on your butt...
Overpriced lemonade: check. *schlurp*
Watching the Bungee-rides, which I call the Happy-Go-Pukey: Check, though at 10 in the morning there wasn't much screaming. Maybe people were still sleepy...
Various Animals...Baa, check! Moo, check! Bukbukbuk, Check! Uhhh, what sounds do alpacas and bison make? They were pretty quiet...
Old-Fashioned Heritage section, with blacksmith and whatnot:
Check!
Geeking out with spinning-wheel ladies: Check!!
Baaaaaby animals: Check. Awwwwwww...
Riding the skychairs: Check.
Counting how many people lost spare change, lip balm and flip-flops while riding the Skychairs: Check! *snicker*
Old Mill Ride: Saving it for later; I was getting tired...
I wish I could go back today. Humph. But I did have so much fun, and I'll get at least one more chance to go before Labor Day. Wheeeee!

Date: 2007-08-29 04:46 pm (UTC)We had a pretty good time, even though we could *not* keep the butterflies off Erin's butt, for some reason. I kept having to go, "Uhhh, don't sit down or anything!!" heeheehee!

Date: 2007-08-29 05:33 pm (UTC)Do they still have Tom Thumb donuts? And dairy building malts? And those spin-a-paint thingies, or is that too old tech now?

Date: 2007-08-30 03:04 am (UTC)I so enjoyed your list, though. I DID make it to the Scott County Fair, and the Dog Show...drooled all over my fav Borzoi breed for hours.
Don't theeenk for a second I have forgotten I owe you.....
and some one of these days, I will surprise you when you most need it!
:)
Life with sis on horse ranch has been very taxing. I am trying to move into town now, hopefully by Oct. 1st. My bro has a friend w/an amazing apt. on lake Harriet for only 675/mo.....avail Oct 1. I have been sending my resume out and trying to snag a good PT job. Is it possible to have a chat w you about such mundane things and also about some advice re my art? I will be in town Thursday! and several more days coming up.

Date: 2007-08-30 12:41 pm (UTC)Have you considered the wonderful world of museums? Last time I checked the MIA website still has listings for some part-time stuff. Might be worth a shot if you're looking for something close to downtown.
And yeah, I'd love some coffee sometime when you and I can find an evening:)
Thursday I'm booked, but I'm sure we can figure something out...

Date: 2007-08-30 04:45 pm (UTC)I will check it out. Is it a pretty laid-back environment? I'm trying to avoid really high-pressure stress jobs.
:)I can handle a bit of cow-irkiness, though. lol
Museums are always worth a try...
Date: 2007-08-30 07:22 pm (UTC)Museum jobs are interesting...usuall there's a bit of drama, depending on where you go. I would NOT recommend Rhymes-With-Stalker for jobs--too many pitfalls. Here at the Jade Mines it's 50-50...the stressful 50 comes from the public in general, like always:/ But it's really not bad in many respects.
