The wind is really kicking up outside. It reminds me a bit of yesterday at rush hour, when I was on the bus going home...It was *exactly* like my tornado dreams--dark green sky, storming, water rushing everywhere, winds howling, everybody freaking out around me...the only thing missing was the actual tornado. I don't *think* we're getting any more of that tonight, who knows?

Meanwhile, I've been invited to a night out at Moscow on the Hill, where I can use the time-honored traditional cold remedy of piroshki and tons of cherry vodka... I'm not usually a heavy drinker, but Moscow on the Hill pretty much guarantees sloshdom, whether you want it or not.
This makes me think of other time-honored cold remedies I've been taught over the years. Everything from a bottle of slivovitz to drinking as much water and vitamin C as possible,to raw cloves of garlic eaten whole, (Owwwwww...) to Matthew's Genetically-inspired chicken-soup recipe.
(It has been pointed out by both Matthew and Spellcheck that "Recipe" is the proper spelling for recipie. I think the other spelling looks incredibly wrong. Dammit, "Recipie" has PIE in it, so that should be the proper spelling. Right? Right?!?!? *sigh* I hate it when I misspell things...)

Anyway, this while topic begs the question: What's your favorite cold cure? I can't help but be curious. If it isn't disgusting or involving roasted newt in a glass of boiling water, I'll probably give it a try at some point...

my mother's was always take one shot of every liquor in the house. Mix it in hot lemonaid, add a little sugar, drink as quickly as possible.

Maybe it doesn't cure the cold but it guarantees happy germs!

All I can think of is the Far Side. One chicken says to the other, "Oh, come on. Chicken soup is good for you. Besides, it's no one we know."

Feel better soon Miss Maus!

A friend of mine used to mix up something like a couple heads of garlic, an onion, half a cup of pepper, some Tobasco, I forget what all. He said it shocks your antibodies into action.

Lucky sloshy girl. What is MOTH? It sounds fun. I would rather sleep entirely through a cold. My cold has gotten worse and has turned into an ear-ache, which I have never had before. ouch! So I need to find home earache remedies too!
I usually try the sniffing vinegar fumes, but....I think I'm too sick this time.

A "bottle" of slivovitch??!! You wouldn't have a cold anymore because you'd be dead and gone.

Mark Twain once said he had a really bad cold and was walking downtown {I can't remember where) and met up with a friend. The friend told him that when he has a cold, he always takes a bottle of whiskey to bed with him and drinks it.
Twain met up with another friend that day that said the same thing.
So Twain said he went home and got two bottles of whiskey and took them to bed with him.
He said he didn't remember if it worked.
:D

I hope you feel better soon!

I like my mom's cold cure: honey and lemon in hot water. Lately I've been adding grated ginger. Smells and tastes good going down!

If you don't like recipe/recipie, try receipt instead!

Good luck with Moskva on ze Hill... I am reading American Gods and thinking of Czernobog and the three sisters from Eastewrn Europe.

I've tried hot lemonade with brandy for a sore throat. Chicken soup couldn't hurt. Borscht is a good alternative, if you're out of chickens.

Git better fast, ya heah...
