Today at work a couple of college girls came up to me with their mom. "Can I ask you a stupid question?" One asked me. "Fire away." I replied. "What country is Egypt in?" I very gently replied, "Egypt is it's own country, it's in the continent of Africa." Her companion snickered a bit and said, "I'm soooo proud to be your sister right now!"

Poor kid. At least she prefaced the whole thing by admitting it was a stupid question. And I did manage to keep the giggling from surfacing until after she and her family was gone...Oh dear...

Wow. In the Olden Days of daily newspapers and nightly national news on the Big 3 Broadcast Networks, she would have known that already.

The schools are failing our children, and the internet is not helping.

I know! You'd think with Egypt being in the news so much recently, she'd have a lock on it, but nope. I have hope though--she is at a museum, absorbing culture...

So the sister didn't know either? Or their mom? But the sister had the nerve to complain about the ignorance? I mean, if someone tried to explain it to you, you'd believe them, right? "No, Egypt is a city, I'm sure of it!"

The sis didn't say anything or try to correct her until after I'd told them...which suggests she didn't know either, perhaps.
But it's not the dumbest question I've ever had there. I think my all time fave is the lady stomping her foot in the pretty, free art museum, demanding to see the dinosaurs...priceless!

I am having a little trouble sleeping of late due to my deep and abiding concern for the direction that the development of consciousness in humanity may take. This post has been very instructive! At this point, I don't think there is any significant doubt in my mind about what 'the direction' is. Thanks! :)

My friend Ch was living in Nordeast about ten years ago and his landlady was a bigoted chainsmoking dimwit, with an IQ of, say 65 (about twice the IQ of her dumbsh!t good for nothing son). When Ch returned from a trip to Europe, the son happened to be visitng his Ma when Ch returned. Dumbsh!t asked Ch where he had been.

Ch said "Paris."

"I thought you were going to Europe," says Dumba55, oblivious to his ridiculous ignorance...
