.....Oh yeah...I'm at work again. *grumble grumble*

Weekend was good--I saw my friends' new apartments. (Two couples are moving next to each other. Community is wonderful.) My appointment was the usual--an hour and a half in the waiting room, then 15 minutes for the actual exam. Everything's as it should be. (I went out and got myself some sushi for being a brave girl.) On Sunday I did homey things and went out to brunch with some people in my building. Again, this community thing is really nice! We guzzled a couple of beers and listened to music and talked about work and relationships and such...and when I felt tired I just went upstairs to bed.

Lots of dreams this weekend--one was about visiting a basement apartment of some fictional friend who had plants everywhere--lavendar growing from the stairs, ferns against the walls, a tiny fish pond in the living room. Wow, was that pretty....

But enough about me. Your weekend was probably cool too.

I clicked on a link someone put up in Secretland...and promptly went "Aiik!" and spilled my coffee. It scared the Cthuhlhu out of me.

I'll put it up...but I wouldn't click it if you're still half awake like I was...not that I'm sleepy anymore, nope nope nope. *shudder*

This is a terrible terrible thing to see on a Monday morning...

Hmmm..why do I have the Ska-beat stuff from the long version of "the Sky's gone Out" stuck in my head? I'm so weird...
Da doom doom doop, da doom doop doop, dadoodadoodadoop dadoom doop doop...*Weird percussive bit* Da doom doom doop, da doom doop doop...
*Drums on thighs*

Oh, later I will have offrenda links, for people who keep wondering what the hell I'm always on about. See how I love you?

Da doom doom doop, da doom doop doop, dadoodadoodadoop, dadoom doop doop...

I found some good links about ofrendas and the Day of the Dead in general.

here is a good overall site for Day of the Dead's practices, history and folk art.

And here is a really bizarre site...I'm in love!!! Too cool!

And this is a beautiful site.

Technically my work has to do with homes for the calaveras--the little skeleton people in every profession and walk of life. So they're mini-ofrendas instead of the larger installations you generally tend to see. (Though I do the bigger ones when opportunity presents itself.) Though I have some Hispanic blood, I haven't grown up with the culture...so I try to be as respectful as possible and yet still give it my own personal view.

So there you are:)

*Remembers something Elysiangirl did that cheered her up no end*

"MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!"

Awwright you people, Moo with da Maus!!!

"MOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Mooomooomoooooo!!! MOOOOOOOOO!!!"

...I got an idea for another calavera sort of thing. I have an mini-ofrenda that wasn't working out--it needed something. I just thought of what it could need.
Veil the figure, put in some extra stuff, maybe ...

*think think think*

And, yes, I often sublimate things that come out in art. That's what art does, ask Jackson Pollock, or De Kooning. I cling to it tenaciously. It's the only thing that's really, truly 100 percent mine. People and places mutate, change, drift away or come closer. Jobs change, possesions change, needs change, money comes and goes...but what I see and what I make are always with me. Cut off my hands and I'd learn to paint with my mouth or nudge stuff with my damn elbows. Make me into a disembodied head in a pan, and I'd make pretty pictures in my head until the Mad Scientist runs out of juice for me. Until I'm dead, this is mine. Maybe even after.

I'm in a weird mood, forgive that head-in-a-pan-thing.

...I'm thinking about how nice a nap would be...and reading some of those Hectic Planet comics I bought this weekend. And making some Morbid Valentines.
(I saw the coooolest thing--Cthuthlu valentines, painted by different artists. They were spendy, but I loved the idea. )

Oh, and making some chili. *grin*

Say it with me and wiggle!!!

"CHILI!!! CHILI!!! CHILI!!! CHILI!!!! CHILI!!!"

Mmmm...soon...soon there will be the magic mix of ingredients that make Ms Eff's Nuke-them-tastebuds-they-had-it-comin' Chili!!!

*drools on the linoleum desk*

Back: A bit sore.
Neck: Definitely sore. But glittery.
Eyes: Tired.
Arms: Okay. (see back)
Stomach: Full of cookies.
Legs: Okay.
Feet: See back.
Brain: Sleepy, the Red Bull wore off a while back.

General inventory: I have enough oomph to get some Vietnamese take-out and drag it home...not even smoke can fight the seductive scent of garlic and hot sauce.
I gar-onn-teee....

*foams at mouth at the thought of spring rolls*
