Up to my elbows in paint on a Sunday afternoon...

I finally finished the big watercolor I was working on...and it don't look half bad. I'm always living in dread of the Huge Catastrophic Painting That Won't Work At All. (Even though it wouldn't be realistic *not* to have some kind of idiotic mistake along the line; it's just how the process goes.)

Right now I'm taking a break on a friend's computer waiting for the watercolors I'm working on to dry. Ben's got some very nice orchids that are blooming right now; so I thought I'd have some fun painting them. So far so good, though I made a hash of one of the "sketch" paintings I did. (The kind of yellowsh-purple the orchids have are a devil to mix to get just right--I've scrubbed out 3 tries so far.)

Besides painting, it's been a relaxing day. Just sort of quiet and good.

if the HCPTWWAA ever happens, just cut it into pieces, glue it to another paper or canvas, and work on it some more.

I might do that if one of the Orchids don't work out....I never thought of that with watercolor, but I've done that with inks.

i'm not hunting until my unemployment runs out. i'm only going to apply for jobs i'd really like going to work at. and, if everyone who intends to buy a painting follows through, i won't have to hunt at all :)

i wasn't saying that directly to you, really. it's just that any artist will tell you that for every sale there are a hundred "i'll be backs".

Yep yep. All us arty types. There's this coworker promising me a spot for my work in a photo shoot, and he keeps disappearing...I'm er, not taking him very seriously. If it happens, great, but I'm not holding my breath.

there's a good joke about that. an artist dies, and goes to heaven. when she gets there, she finds herself in a giant room, full of all the artists who ever lived. the center of the room is a table covered with fruit, wine and cheese. the walls are covered with new paintings by all the greats. and there are doors, lots of doors. she spends the next several hours eating, drinking wine, and talking to all her idols. eventually, she realizes she has to pee really badly. she asks for a bathroom and is told all the doors lead to bathrooms. she goes into one, and as she is about to sit, notices, in the bottom of the toilet, a bunch of tiny people, waving their tiny arms and shouting out...





"we'll be back, we'll be back"

Isn't that the truth...if I had the money for every "I'll be back" I wouldn't need my crappy job, that's for sure...
