...My dad is home, and wrapped up in a black satin sling my mom made for him. He's got 42 stitches, a bone fragment and/or a tooth imbedded somewhere, and enough antibiotics to knock out a cow...

It took forever to find an official who was willing to help them, but they finally got a guy whose own child was mauled by a dog and was sympathetic. People are working on it, but the dog has still not been removed from this guy's property. (I know what you're thinking, and I'm thinking it too: This should be a no-brainer. Dog bites, get it impounded, check for rabies! Sadly in parts of Missouri this is not the case....)

I'm having a quiet night, just so very glad Dad's going to be okay.

I'm a grateful Maus.

Yay!!!!!!

I hope your dad heals quickly and that they at least make sure the dog was properly vaccinated. Is there any way for your mom to investigate whether this is the first time this dog has attacked someone?

She KNOWS this is not the first time--this dog cornered her friend and neighbor a while back, and has had problems with various other neighbors too...

I think if (and when) my folks go to court their case is cut out with pinking shears..they already have a neighbor who's willing to testfy for them.

Hello again!!

Hello again. ;-)

Well, if she doesn't get satisfaction from the police, they should file a civil suit.

There is no way a dog should be premitted to terrorize people like that and the owner should have to pay. And invest in some proper training or give up the dog.

I agree completely. A dangerous animal is by far worse than any other assault weapon I can think of...you never know when it'll go off:(
And it's high time this guy dealt with the consequences of his actions.

I took a peek at your lj and added you on my friend's list:)
*Very* good points about animal breeding, very well-informed and thoughtful. *nods head thoughtfully*

Yep, and it is a shame that the dog will likely end up being destroyed because of the owners idiocy, but there's not a lot that can be done when a dog is full grown and has that level of agression. A rotweiler rescue group might be able to manage a to undo the damage, but it's unlikely.

*nods more*

Sad but true...Once a dog starts to bite and isn't taught not to, it's really hard to make it stop. I feel bad for the dog; rottweilers aren't bad dogs, it was that horrible man that taught him biting was okay:(

The sad thing is I've been looking twice at large dogs today..and I love them; been raised with them all my life. Now I look and think of my dad for a minute. But just a minute. I'm sure finding a couple of nice neighborhood dogs to pat will cure all that.
