Dear Walter Mondale;

From the bottom of my heart, and the bottom of hearts all over the state, thank you. Thank you for stepping into a very hard race when we needed you badly, and doing your best in arguably one of the hardest elections Minnesota's ever seen. A lot of people are grateful. I know I am. Thank you so much for your love of Minnesota.

Dear Norman Coleman, our apparently new Senator;

You've won. Congratulations.
No, I'm not happy about that, your winning. I don't feel you speak for me or frankly, a great many of us Minnesotans. I'm concerned you're going to shunt off to the side everyone who doesn't fit your boss Dubya's bottom line. I'm very worried you're going to give the green light to a lot of things that could hurt our state and our country as well as alienate many of your constituents who need a voice where the poor and disenfranchised are being heard less and less.

I'll be watching you like crazy. Please prove me wrong; nothing would make me happier....

Well-said. And I'm sure a sentiment shared by many, myself included. Wellstone's death was SUCH a loss. :(

I'm thinking about setting up a refugee camp somewhere around Thunder Bay or something. :( It's obvious that my country doesn't give a fuck about me anymore.

You want in on the Ark, baby? I bet Canada appreciates your kind of art...

Love,
A.

Heh. I just posted something similar. Looking for people to emigrate somewhere with me. I hate this place.

oh i'm so sorry. i read about the mn election this morning. what a loss, to go from wellstone to coleman. it's so frightening to me that the republicans now have control of congress. and i agree mondale is the greatest.

Yeah...

We're still gonna fight; though...all us people who voted for Mondale aren't just going to dry up and blow away because Coleman's here. It's just gonna be harder now:(

There is one thing to remember about the way that things are run...

Yes, the Republicans now have control over the Senate, the House, and they have members as chairperson for ever subcommittee. All that being said, what they don't have is the 2/3 of the Senate to be able to push their agenda through. Since they'll need 60 votes per bill to get anything passed in the Senate, their current number of 50 (not counting Louisiana that is going to have a run off in December) means that they will still have to court the Democrats and Independants to get anything through. Add in the whole filabustering process and it might not be quite so apocolyptical as it seems.

Thanks for those sentiments... If were still a Minesotan, I would have said the same thing...

I feel bad for Rick Kahn, who is being blamed for poloticizing the Wellstone memorial service. He had never done such a public speech before, and I'm sure the DFL will make sure he will keep his mouth shut in the future. What the public doesn't realize is that the speakers were all chosen by the Wellstone family, and speeches rousing people to action were not a sin in the Wellstone household. What ever happened to "Don't mourn, organize." ? I think Ventura's opinions swayed some undecideds. He was just trying to be Jesse, but he could have handled it better, too...

All hail the lame duck Senator Barkely!!!!

I feel bad for Rick Khan, too...the poor guy was still grieving the death of one of his best friends; I wish the state could cut him a little slack. and people were angry and grived and furious about what a lot of people felt was going to happen in their name. No wonder things got out of hand.

And Senator Barkley....*gets the Minnesotan accent* Ohh, here we gooo...
