...I got a message from my current apartment manager...They claim they'r not liable for the damage I suffered due to thier flooding my apartment; only for the damage to the apartment itself. So they won't waive thier administration fee...and will probably find othr ways to take the entire thing away, knowing them. I spent a lot of yesteray evening on the phone. I left messages for the Stop Abuse campaign, and talked to my friend emily, whos sister's a housing lawyer. I'm e-mailing her today.
I really don't think I'm asking much...but I'm not suprised that these sorry scumbags are fighting me.
What works in my favor right now is that the elevator is *still* down--5 days and counting. Aftr 24 hours that was illegal. Also, I'm positive they used unliscensed plumbers on the building--who else woul put a tap on so badly you couldn't turn it off?!? That's illegal too. I know for a *fact* the work they did was in-house, beause I asked specifically. I really don't want to have to drag this to court...but they're not leaving me much choice, 6ammit!!! I hate this!!! I want this to be done!!! And it just keeps getting worse an worse.
goddammit.

Date: 2004-05-19 12:48 pm (UTC)I found both taps running, a new plug wedged in the sink, and water spreading across my living room.
It wasn't the taps running in your original description that raised an eyebrow for me.. It was the new plug wedged in the sink. How could you walk away from a job with the water running and no way for it to drain if you didn't intend for an overflow to happen?
Are they trying to get all the current residents out so they can refurbish things and go condo or raise the rent by a huge amount?

Date: 2004-05-19 01:12 pm (UTC)They keep refrring to it as an "accident" even though a maintenance guy had to shut the water off under the sink with a wrench to stop the flooding. Also, other peopl in the builing have similar tap problems to mine, just not the severity of the flooding I had.
I can't s them refurbishing ANYthing around here...they'r not the refurbishing type.:P
I *can* see them "punishing" me for leaving an giving them a bad review in my exit sheet, though....& I'll definitly bring it up & watch thier faces when they lie to me...
